April 2019 saw the beginning seminar of the Equity in Composing project, which aims to address the diversity and equity issues in the field of studying and composing contemporary music. The working group behind this project is composed of professor Heidi Partti, composers Riikka Talvitie, Minna Leinonen and Markku Klami as well as journalist Anu Ahola. The project has received support from the Sibelius Academy of the University of Arts, the Society of Finnish Composers, Music Finland, the Finnish Music Foundation and Martin Wegelius' Legacy Foundation. Equity in Composing is a project within the framework of CERADA, Center for Educational Research and Academic Development in the Arts.

Our project is in full speed forward, as our next seminar weekend was held in September 14, 2019. The first phase of our project will culminate in the public seminar and concert with new works by the students in the project in April 24-25, 2020 in Helsinki.

I'm happy to share with you the official YouTube channel of the Equity in Composing project.

On our YouTube channel you'll find videos by our amazing students where they tell about their influences, sources of inspiration and discuss how it feels to be a young aspiring composer in today's society. There are also video comments on our project by our leader and head of research of our project, professor Heidi Partti and our coordinator composer Riikka Talvitie. I am happy and honored to be in the team of this stellar project with Heidi, Riikka, composer Minna Leinonen and journalist Anu Ahola.

My warmest thanks to the Sibelius Academy of the University of Arts, the Society of Finnish Composers, Music Finland, the Finnish Music Foundation and Martin Wegelius' Legacy Foundation for their cooperation and support with this project.

The videos on our YouTube channel are in Finnish at the moment. Also be sure to check our website at www.yhdenvertaisestisaveltaen.fi
